The 2024-25 season has ended for the Greene County Rams girls’ basketball team.

This season was winless for the Rams; they finished the year out 0-23 overall and 0-16 in Heart of Iowa Conference play. Their last game of the year was a loss to Cherokee Washington, 67-13. The Braves would move on from that game and will play in the Class 3A State Tournament this year after stringing together a few more wins.

Just because the Rams didn’t win a game this year, that doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of positives to look at from the year. For starters, the team never gave up and gave 110 percent all season long; a lot can be said about the players on that alone.

The team was extremely young and didn’t field a single senior on the squad. From the start of the season to the end, this team showed improvement in every aspect of their game and continued to showcase a no-quit attitude through the season’s final whistle.

The Scranton Journal Offensive MVP of the Year for the Rams was sophomore Makenna Ebersole. She led the team with 221 points at 10 points per game. Ebersole also had 11 assists and made 72 of her 148 free throw attempts on the year.

The Scranton Journal Defensive MVP of the Year for the Rams was also Makenna Ebersole. Ebersole led the team in blocks with 73, led the team in defensive rebounds with 160, and also added 26 steals.

Honorable mention for Offensive MVP was Kaycee Pittman, with 89 total points at 4.7 points per game, and she also had 32 assists, which led the team. Honorable mention for Defensive MVP was Sara Morlan, who chipped in nine blocks, 26 steals, and 38 defensive rebounds. This team has a lot to be proud of this season, and they have plenty of positives to build on from this year and take into the 2025-26 basketball season. One thing is certain: the core players on this team will be able to return next year with more experience, which should translate to success on the court.
